I attended the Junkanoo Parade on Boxing Day (December 26) while visiting friends on Harbour Island, Bahamas. The tradition dates back to the 16th or 17th century when slaves were given the opportunity to leave their plantations and celebrate the holidays with African dance, music and costumes. This wonderfully creative, joyous celebration continues to this day.
